Lack of Vitamin B12 can cause the body to produce abnormally large red blood cells that can’t function properly. This can affect how much haemoglobin each red blood cell can carry, and therefore how much oxygen each red blood cell is able to distribute around the body.
The recommended dosage for adults is usually 1mg every 2-3 months, depending on the level of deficiency.
